Born Imogene Bowman in Christiansburg VA on September 25, 1924, daughter of Sadie Ila Scaggs and Samuel McCann Bowman. Her early years spent on a farm and later in Front Royal, VA where she graduated high school.
Jean married David Lee von Ludwig, a materials engineering consultant, and moved to New York City where they had 3 children named Cheryl, David Tristam and Charlotte Louise. Jean was artistically inclined and became a docent at the Brooklyn Museum. She also attended the New York school of interior design.
After Jean divorced David Lee she was remarried to Henry "Hank" Hayden. When Hank retired from publishing the two moved to Vero Beach, FL in October of 1975. Hank passed away in March of 1976. Jean met George P Armstrong and remarried in December 1977.
George and Jean decided Vero beach needed a cultural center. George had the business acumen from years working in the automotive sales industry and Jean had the extraordinary vision for an art museum. Their combined charisma helped coordinate the successful effort to create the Center for the Arts.
George passed in May 1997. Jean met Dana Warren and they married in 2004. Dana passed away in 2011. Jean suffered a mild stroke in December 2012 and suffered the effects of dementia for the remainder of her time. From this time she resided in Boynton Beach, FL close to family. She passed away shortly after a positive Covid test on August 13th, 2021.
Jean was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She is survived by daughters Charlotte La Ferrera, Cheryl Young and son David Tristam Ludwig, as well as grandchildren David Christopher Ludwig, Cindy Ludwig, Alessandra Young, Danielle Young, Genevieve La Ferrera and Anthony La Ferrera.
