H. Lawson Obituary
LAWSON, H. RHEA - age 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Mr. Lawson was born August 10, 1929 and was raised by parents John and Tempa Lane in Fort Blackmore, Virginia. He graduated from Dungannon High School at the age of 16 and then served in the United States Army in Germany in the early 1950's. Mr. Lawson graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in transportation and logistics. He also attended graduate school at East Tennessee State University. Mr. Lawson was a manager with Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, TN, after graduating from UT. He served in the transportation department, working first with domestic shipments and later with international shipping for Tennessee Eastman Company. He was very well respected and made many close friends in the international freight forwarding community. After his retirement from Eastman Kodak, Mr. Lawson worked with Coleman International in Norfolk, Virginia and continued close relationships with friends and colleagues both in Tennessee and Virginia. Mr. Lawson was an avid golfer and once shot a hole-in-one while conducting business on the golf course. He also served with the Jaycees and coached sports for the Boys Club in Kingsport as a young man. A member of Mafair United Methodist Church in Kingsport, Mr. Lawson was a Lay Leader in the church and taught adult Sunday school and Disciple Bible studies frequently. He began each class with the scripture, "This is the day the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it." After moving to Knoxville, Mr. Lawson was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, where he continued to teach and worked with the Soup Kitchen. Mr. Lawson was a devoted husband, father, and a marvelous grandfather. He leaves behind devoted wife, Mary Heim Lawson; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Tom Coe; son and daughter-in-law, David and Jody Lawson; grandchildren, Will Coe, Kitty Coe, Jack Coe, Isabella Lawson, and David "Bo" Lawson, Madison Brown and Baylee Brown; and brother, Hubert Lawson. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Asbury Acres Health Center in Maryville, for their love and care of Mr. Lawson during his last years. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at Church Street United Methodist Church, 900 Henley Street, Knoxville, TN, 37902. The family will receive friends following the service
