Mr. George Coleman Dixon, 68, died Sunday afternoon (Apr. 30, 2006) at Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL after a short illness.

He is a native of Lowndes County, but he lived most of his life in Waycross before moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1994. He was employed as a mechanic with Littlefield Construction in Waycross and Cornelius Pecan Company in Tifton. He owned and operated a produce stand in Jacksonville. He also served in the U. S. National Guard and was a bag boy for Shoemaker's Grocery in the Old Nine district of Waycross many years ago.

He is the son of the late Shennie Dixon and Jimmie Lee Ward Dixon. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Lee L. Dixon and Ralph Dixon.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Mathis Dixon of Jacksonville, FL; two sons, Billy Ward (wife Kim) of Jacksonville, FL, and George Dixon (wife Rhonda) of Waynesville; a daughter, Juanita Woodson of Nahunta; 5 grandchildren, Emily Rose Ward, Eric Dixon, Stephanie Dixon, Hope Dixon and Carlie Woodson; a sister, Evelyn Cornelius of Manor; 4 brothers, Thomas Dixon (wife Louise) of Augusta, Billy Dixon of Kingsland, Kenneth Dixon and Jimmy Dixon (wife Kay) both of Waycross; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Dixon of Waycross, and Pat Murray of Augusta; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday (May 2, 2006) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in New Prospect Cemetery in Manor. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
