Jennie was born Jannetje den Bleijker on August 5th, 1820 in Ouddorp, daughter of Maarten den Bleijker and Baaltje van Dam. She "emigrated" within the Netherlands to the island Texel in the province of Noord-Holland. There she met and married Pieter Aleman. Peter was born September 15th, 1811 in Ouddorp in the province of Zuid-Holland and had 'emigrated" with his parents to Texel too. Together Pieter and Jannetje had 5 children before Pieter died May 11th, 1850 on Texel. Two children died in Holland, but 3 children went along with Jannetje to the US: Johannes (1844-1918) then Maarten and Pieter.
After the death of her husband Pieter she married Theunis Roest in 1853 in Texel, but he had left her or he had died before Jannetje and her children went to the US. Along with them went her illegitimate daughter Maartje den Bleijker, born on in 1857. In America this daughter called herself Martha Alman (after her stepfather she never had known).
