WILSON -- Graveside services for Buford Allen Shawn, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Hewitt Cemetery with the Rev. Jason Langley officiating.
Born Oct. 17, 1925, in Frederick, Okla., to the late Oscar Ellis and Georgia Lockaby Shawn, he died May 21, 2002, at his residence in Wilson.
B.A. grew up in the Velma-Alma and Duncan area where he attended school. He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the 7th Amphibious Unit in the South Pacific. Returning to this area, he and the former Margaret Elizabeth Keenon were united in marriage on Aug. 10, 1946, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They owned and operated a typewriter business in Altus, Okla., four years, then in 1952, moved to Carter County, where he worked for Texoma Office Supply, retiring in the early 1980s after 30 years of service. They had lived in Wilson since 1977.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret, of the home; a daughter, Glenda, and her husband, Clelan Wallis, of Wilson; two sisters, Nora Cockrell of Comanche, and Faye Eversole of Antlers; two brothers, Donald Shawn of Norman, and Curtis Shawn of Duncan; three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Stacy and Ferrell Patterson and Tara and Darryl Smith, all of Ada, and Lorie and Jeff Crisp of Tulsa; two great-grandsons, Garion Patterson of Ada, and Shawn Smith of Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orville Shawn; and two sisters, Margaret Ritter and Agnes Shawn.
Bearers will be Keith Gibbs, Donald Eversole, Darryl Smith, Bruce Eversole, Bryan Burke and Forrell Patterson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time for service Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home chapel.
