Emma A. DeWitt age 88 of Mt. Sterling passed away at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Facility in Rushville, Illinois.
She was born July 22, 1915 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of H. E. and Rachel Crooks Flynn. She married Ora Lee DeWitt on June 4, 1932 in Rushville, Illinois and he survives.
Mrs. DeWitt was a homemaker and had also worked as a cashier for Flynn’s Market in Mt. Sterling for several years.

She attended Mt. Sterling Schools.
Mrs. DeWitt was a devoted member of the First Christian Church of Mt. Sterling where she served as an Elder Emeritus and Sunday school superintendent, secretary and teacher for several years. She was also a member of the Brown County Home Extension Day Unit and the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 Auxiliary. Mrs. DeWitt always enjoyed raising flowers and gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband Ora Lee DeWitt of Mt. Sterling. 2 children Bertha Northup and her husband George and Robert DeWitt and his wife Virginia all of Mt. Sterling. 5 grandchildren Debbie Gable, Randy DeWitt and his wife Debbie, David Northup and his wife Robin and Mike DeWitt and his wife Vicki all of Mt. Sterling and Patty Duke and her husband Mike of Chino Hills, California. 15 great grandchildren Ashley Gable, Shawn and his wife Karey, Missy, Ryan and Stephanie DeWitt, Lindsay, Michele and Perry Wilkerson, Nichole and Allison Northup, Jessica, Bobbi and Eric DeWitt, Makenzie Duke and Leslie Boren. 6 great great grandchildren Mallori and Sophia DeWitt, Shelbi Bowman, Hunter Boren, Kaden Behymer and Lilyan Hogan. 1 sister Gladys Wegs of Quincy, Illinois. 1 sister-in-law Jean Flynn of Fulton, Missouri and a close family friend Olive Fite of Macomb, Illinois also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers Clarence, Guy, Richard, Henry, Charles and Harold Flynn and 3 sisters Edna Long, Ada Deters and Alberta Flynn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004 in the First Christian Church of Mt. Sterling with Rev. Lee Reffett and Rev. Dr. Ambrose Stump officiating.
Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery south of Mt. Sterling.
Friends may call any time after 4:00 p.m. on Friday with the family meeting friends from 6 until 8 Friday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. Friends may also call 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Mt. Sterling or the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
