BOONE GARRISON MELVIN, CHESANING, MICHIGAN. Passed away on Monday morning, June 23, 2003 at the Chesaning Nursing Care Center. age 95. Mr. Boone was born on November 5, 1907 in Brant Two., the son of Charles Oliver and Ethel (Fuller) Boone. He was married to Ella W. Salzwell on May 22, 1935. His wife, Ella of 68 years survives him. Garrison went to work for Peet Packing Company as a ham boner. He had 35 yers of service with Peets retiring in 1972. Garrison was also a journeyman electrician. He was well known for the furance service work and other jobs he did for people. Garrison always said "I try to do my little bit." He was a life time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Chesaning. He was a member of the Methodist men's Groups and had been a Sunday School teacher for the young men along with Cecil Ringler. Garrison was head usher for many years. He always made the coffee for the church functions. He rang the church bell every Sunday in the old church. Garrison and Ella enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and Europe. In 1985 Garrison received the Chesaning Rotary Club Community Service Award. Surviving are his daughter, Garlene (Garrie) and Clifford Jorden of Bellevile and Oakley; four granchildren, Colby Garrison and oralia Jordon, Nita and Steve Logan, Robin and Gilbert Baldwin, Brandon Jorden; great-granchildren, Kieth and Shani Jorden, Stephanie and April Logan, Nikita, Reginald, Kemet and Rashana Baldwin; one sister, Pearl Francis, age 101 and sister-in-law, Beatrice Boone. He was predeaceased by brothers, Lavergne and Clarence Boone. Funeral services will take place 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Chesaning. Rev. Sherry Parker will officiate with burial in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning, on Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and then at the church on Thursday after 3:00 p.m. The funeral dinner will be held at 5:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.
