Obituary from East St. Louis Daily Journal, 4 November 1946, page 2:

W. D. Milner Dies Here

William D. Milner, 75, of rural route 7, Mount Vernon, died at 12:30 a. m. today in Christian Welfare hospital after a week's illness.

Milner, born in Wayne county, Ill., had lived in East St. Louis 28 years until he moved to Mount Vernon a short time ago. He worked for Swift & Co. 28 years as a chief of police and retired nine years ago.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Mattie B. Milner; five daughters, all of East St. Louis, Mrs. Mamie Shepherd, Mrs. Marie Mathews, Mrs. Marguerite Green, Mrs. Mary Luksza and Mrs. Mildred Tate; five sons Joseph of O'Fallon; Robert, East St. Louis; Harvey, Collinsville; Logan, Riverside, Calif.; and Oliver, Glendale, Calif.; three brothers, Halleck, John and Harvey; one sister, Mrs. Effie Eyers; 29 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Milner was a member of the Central Church of Christ of Mount Vernon and a student of Roscia-Cruscia.

Note: After the death of his first wife, William married Mattie Belle (Tice) Gray around 1939. She would have been about 58 when they married so it is unlikely that they had any children. All of the children mentioned in the above obituary are from his first marriage to Martha Borland. The obituary is somewhat confusing as it does not list wife "Mattie" as his second marriage or mention his first wife, Martha Borland.
