A native of the Dixie Union area in Ware County and a son to the late Allen Ernest Smith and Susie Spivey Smith ;; also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jeanette Griffin Smith; and two sisters, Catherine Barber and Margaret Sullivan.
Fred was a lifelong resident of Ware County who retired from CSX Railroad as a switchman after over 27 years of service. In his early years, he worked at his father's cabinet shop and helped build houses.
Fred was a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church, and he loved fishing and building his own boat.
Left to carry on by one daughter, Carole Cribb (Mike) of Jacksonville, FL;
two sons,
Allen E. Smith of Waycross, and
V. Avery Smith (Janalyn) of Covington;
six grandchildren and
three great grandchildren;
brother-in-law, Horace Barber; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (June 1, 2023) at Jordan Cemetery in Dixie Union.
Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
