Peggy Ormond Lawrence, a loving, gentle, and selfless woman, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2023, in Elizabeth City, NC.
Born on July 1, 1935, in Vanceboro, NC, Peggy was the daughter of the late Wherry Cecil Ormond and Dora Chandler Ormond. Devoted to her family, she was predeceased by her husband, Raleigh Elvin Lawrence, Sr., in 2008 but leaves to cherish her memory their four loving children, Cathy Harrell (Ronnie) of Tyner, NC; Vicky Braddy (Ricky) of Elizabeth City, NC; Raleigh E. Lawrence, Jr. (Teresa) of Elizabeth City, NC; and Joey Lawrence of Raleigh, NC.
Peggy grew up in a large, close-knit family with five sisters (Buelah Mae Ormond, Lucille Ormond Wilson, Ruth Ormond Wiggins, Naomi Ormond Edwards, Lovie Pauline "Polly' Whitehurst) and five brothers (Lester Ormond, Edward Ormond, Ledrew "Tinker" Ormond, Jerome David Ormond, and Donald Ormond). She was predeceased by all siblings except for her sister, Polly, of Newbern, NC.
Peggy's nurturing spirit and genuine love for her family were evident in the way she cared for her six grandchildren, Christy Pasiuk (Nick), Sherri Anne Freeman (Doug), Amber Jones (Dale), Ricky Braddy, Jr. (Logan), Tabitha Lawrence, and Tiffany Lawrence and her twelve great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory and the time they spent with her.
Peggy's unwavering love and support for her husband, Raleigh, were the foundation of their strong and enduring marriage. Their love story is a testament to the power of commitment and the importance of cherishing the time we have with our loved ones.
Peggy attended Fountain of Life Church for most of her adult life. One of her greatest joys was shopping, especially for shoes and pocketbooks.
The family will receive visitors at the visitation scheduled from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Twiford Memorial Chapel. A private service for family will be held.
