"SANFORD RICE, 62, CLAIMED BY DEATH
Family Service Friday At Bratton's
Sanford Rice, age 62 years, well known farmer, passed away Wednesday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock at the Witham hospital where he had been a patient since March 23. He had been in failing health the last five years and his death was attributed to a complication of diseases.
Mr. Rice was born in Boone County, a son of Francis Marion and Elizabeth (Olds) Rice. He spent most of his life on farms in Boone county, near Lebanon and Thorntown. He was a member of the Christian Church. Mr. Rice was twice carried [sic, married] the first marriage being to Rosa Kinsler and the second to Rosa Meeks, both of whom are deceased.
Survivors are a step-mother, Mrs. Mary E. Rice of Thorntown; two children, Mrs. Hazel Hutchinson of near Thorntown and Okley Rice of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. J. W. Ingram of Santiago, Calif.; four half-brothers, W. O. Rice of Kokomo, John Rice of Montana, Orville E. Rice of Thorntown and Clarence Rice of Mechanicsburg, and two half sisters. Mrs. Edith Holmes of near Lebanon and Mrs. W. M. Warren of Mechanicsburg.
The body is at the Bratton Brothers funeral home where friends may call. A family service will be held at the Bratton funeral home at ten o'clock Friday morning with the Rev. Herman Allen of Thorntown officiating. Burial will be in Precinct cemetery."
