Catharine Ann Joyce was the daughter of Ralph and Maliseut/Malissa (Vernon) Joyce. Catharine married George Edward Rice on February 23, 1851 in Hendricks County, Indiana. George and Catharine had 9 children - Savannah Eleanor "Ella" (Rice) Riley, Francis Marion Rice, Albert Rice, Sophia May (Rice) Alexander, Mary M. "Mollie" (Rice) Riley, Warren Tilford Monroe Rice, Sarah Emma (Rice) DeBolt, Ruth Ann (Rice) Burckhalter and an unknown infant. Catherine was a member of the Friends Church in Thorntown and died of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Catharine's tombstone spells her name as Catherine, but on depositions for William Henry Dill's pension applications, she signed her name as Catharine Ann Rice.
