"Sanford B. Averill Sr.
DuBois - Sanford Bernard Averill Sr., 66, a native of Rockton and a long-time resident of DuBois, died at his home Wednesday at 10 p.m. Born at Rockton June 25, 1891. He was the son of William and Mary (Rowles) Averill. He married the former Beatrice Wilson Sept. 12, 1920. Mr. Averill was employed as a night watchman. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and the DuBois Eagles Club. He was recently named honorary Fire Police Chief by the DuBois Fire Police. In addition to his wife, Mr. Averill is survived by two sons, Sanford F. Averill Jr. (that should have been B.), and John R. Averill, and a daughter Mrs. John Jones, all of DuBois. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Jane Workman and Mrs. Alice Warnick, both of DuBois, and Mrs. Ruth Ward, Buffalo, N.Y. Funeral services will be from the Paul J. Short Funeral Home, DuBois, at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow with Rev. S. D. Sigler officiating. Interment will follow in Rockton Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home today and until time of services tomorrow."
