Obituary Carroll R. Maxwell
Carroll R. Maxwell, for the past twenty years, a resident of Garvanza, entered into rest at the family residence, 6427 Pasadena Avenue, on Thursday, Oct. 8. Carroll R. Maxwell was born in Buckhart Township, Fulton County, Ill, August 27, 1856. On November 16, 1882, he was married to Miss Georgiana Fisher at Liverpool, Ill., who with one son, Everett, survives.

The early part of his life was spent as a merchant in Canton, IL. Later he came with his family to California and settled at Santa Ana in 1900. Five years later the family removed to Los Angeles where they have since resided.

For fifteen years the deceased was a valued and trusted employee of the Los Angeles Board of Education, resigning in March of this year when failing health conquered and he was forced to enter a hospital where it was found that medical skill was of no avail.

Since May he has been bedfast, and his dearly loved ones were untiring in their efforts to relieve his suffering. At 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, he entered into eternal rest, leaving to mourn his loss, beside his wife and son, one brother, John Ellis of Valley Falls, Kansas and three sisters, Mrs. Ida Ackley of Bryant, S. Dakota, Mrs. Hattie Ball of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Miss Effie Maxwell, who for the past nine years has been a faithful sister in the home.

Of a quiet retiring disposition, only those closely associated with him knew his unusual sterling character, for of him, it can be truthfully said that he had lived a life above reproach and was loved and respected by all who were near hm. "He was a good man," may truly be applied to the deceased.

Funeral services were held at the Highland Park Undertaking Parlors Saturday. Oct. 10. The service was conducted by Dr. W.L.Y. Davis, pastor of Highland Park M.E. Church. Mrs. Zoe Roshong Myrenius sang two familiar songs, "My Ain Countrie" and "Some Time We'll Understand," accompanied by Mrs. M.P. Rouse. Out of town relatives who were present were Mrs. Frank Townaley from Santa Ana; Mrs. Ella Moore from Long Beach and Mr. and Mrs. James Maxwell from Glendale.

The remains will be cremated and later taken to Canton, Ill., to be interred in the family plot in Greenwood cemetery.

Interred with his wife, Georgianna and son, (unmarked) Everett Carroll Maxwell.

Carroll R. Maxwell was the adopted son of Lydia Loper Maxwell and Jacob Ellis Maxwell. His biological parents were John B. Wilson and Adaline Athearn Wilson, who owned a neighboring farm. See: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Maxwell-14267 For full biography.
