A resident of the San Luis Valley since 1910 and one of the first water well drillers in the San Luis Valley, Arthur Earl Biggs died in the Alamosa Community Hospital, July 1.
In addition to drilling many water wells in the Valley he was also a hay contractor, served on the Moffat School board for 16 years and in this capacity presented diplomas to his seven children graduating from the school.
Mr. Biggs was one of the charter members of the Colorado Waterwell Contractors Association which was organized in 1930. He was also a member of the Moffat-Hooper-Mosca Service League, and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Moffat Community Church.
He was married to Ethel Vandruff in 1913. She survives him along with the following sons and daughters: Russell Biggs, Alamosa; Elmer Biggs, Mosca; Lloyd Biggs, Monica, Calif.; Miss Ruth Biggs, and Mrs. Elois Bader, Colorado Springs; Mrs. Elora Whelan, Orange, Calif.
He is also survived by one brother, Orval Biggs, Moffat, and two sisters, Mrs. Leta Mitchell of Moffat and Mrs. Alta Smalley of Alamosa. Nineteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.
