John Willard Biggs was born June 5th, 1864 in Illinois. When a young man he moved to Kansas, there he met and married Rhoda Collins on August 8, 1888 in St. Francis, Kansas. To this union were born three daughters and four sons all of whom live in the San Luis valley, and one son who died in infancy. The Biggs family moved to Moffat in 1910. Biggs was a member of the Moffat Community church and served four years as Justice of the Peace, resigning the office in June 1939 because of ill health. He had suffered a stroke and had been an invalid for three years. Biggs died at his home Tuesday, August 4, 1942 at the age of 78 years and 2 months.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rhoda Biggs of Moffat; four sons, Arthur, Clarence, Orville and Vernie of Moffat; three daughters, Mrs. Pearl Chiles, Mrs. Leta Mitchell of Moffat and Mrs. Alta Smalley of Alamosa; 24 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters and five brothers.
