Son of Thomas Rankin and Isabelle Clendenin, husband of Margaret Massey.
I suspect there may be no headstone.
On the 1820 census James Rankin and family are at Jackson Co, TN; and on the 1830 census they are at Overton Co, TN next to their Daughter and son in law's family, William Whaley Bryant and Isabel (Rankin) Bryant. In 1834 they moved to Jacksonville, Morgan Co, IL. James' wife was Margaret Massey spelled that way NOT Massie. I found her parents were NOT Edmund Massie or Mary Dabney, and I doubt there was such a couple. I know Margaret's mother was surname Barrett, perhaps given name Nancy and I suspect her father was a William Massey of North Carolina where Margaret and her siblings Susan and Isaac were also born. Reverend Thomas Jefferson Bryant's Autobiography of 1890 clearly states Margaret's mother was surname Barrett.
