John J. Whitney, a life-long and well-known resident of Bennington passed away at his home on North street late Friday afternoon in his 69th year. During the last year his health had not been of the best but his final illness was of about three weeks' duration. Bright's disease was the ultimate cause of death. Born in Bennington, the son of Patrick and Mary Whitney, the deceased early in life learned the trade of carpentry, an occupation that he followed so long as his physical condition would permit. He was a popular citizen, and during his long residence here had acquired many friends who will learn of his death with deep regret. Surviving are his wife, who was Bridget Enright, a native of Port Henry, N. Y., two daughters, Mrs. Mae McLaughlin and Mrs. William Corbett, two sons, John J. Whitney Jr., and Edward Whitney, four granddaughters and one grandson. The funeral will probably be held at St. Francis de Sales church at 9 o'clock Monday morning and interment will be at Park Lawn cemetery.
