DUKES - Edward LeRoy Dukes, son of John and Mattie Shular Dukes, was born March 1, 1882, in Lucas County, Iowa, and passed away at Lucas County Memorial Hospital in Chariton on September 28, 1968.

He grew to manhood in Lucas County and was united in marriage to Frances Duckworth on September 23, 1903. To this union five children were born. He was a loving husband and father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, John and four sisters.

Those left to mourn his passing are two sons, Clifford of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Everett Dukes of Minneapolis, Minn., two daughters, Fraulein Barker of Chariton and Donna Reeves of Lebanon, Mo., one sister Mae Carpenter of Kansas City, Mo., 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. L.W. Mendenhall at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 1968 at the Beardsley Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was at the Bethel cemetery.
