Goldie was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Gates and Melissa Jane Phillips Gates. She was born in Parkersburg, WV., married James William Dye; had three children; Richard Allen Dye who married Janice Ilene Busch; Lenora Irene who married Raymond Arthur Barlow Sr.; and Cleland James Dye. Along with her husband James, they resided in Belpre Ohio from 1961 until her death in 2003.

BELPRE - Goldie Irene Dye, 82, of Belpre died Feb. 2, 2003, at Harmar Place, Marietta, Ohio.
She was born March 20, 1920, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Melissa Jane Phillips Gates. She was a lifelong homemaker and had been employed by the May Co. and Eaton Mfg. in Cleveland and by the W.T. Grant and G.C. Murphy companies in Parkersburg. She liked to travel and had visited most of the states. Her many pastimes and hobbies included Bingo, playing card games and enjoying other games with friends. She also enjoyed working on ceramics and all types of crafts.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Dye of Belpre and Cleland Dye of Long Beach, Calif; one daughter, Lenora Barlow of Long Beach; six grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Dye; seven sisters, Stella Grote; Bessie Fury; Geneva Phillips; Hazel Kesterson; Elsie Jobes; Opal Gates and Julia Ramsey; one brother, Henry Gates; one half brother, Clarence Griffith; and two grandchildren Douglas Dye and Drenda Barlow.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with the Rev. Mark Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Foley Cemetery, Parkersburg. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
