Cecil graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. Cecil then worked as mail carrier in Hutchinson for over 30 years. After retirement, he worked for five years at Winans Elementary School. Cecil enjoyed spending time with his son, Brian, tinkering with things in the garage and out at Brian's farm. He also enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid boxing fan. Most of all, he was a family man. Cecil's greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a member of NARFE and NALC Union (National Association of Letter Carriers). Cecil was of the Methodist faith.
On November 7, 1954, he married Nellie Pearl Allison, in Hutchinson. She passed away January 12, 2020, after they shared almost 66 years of marriage.
Cecil is survived by: daughter, Rhonda Ford; granddaughter, Jennifer Cushenbery (Travy), all of Hutchinson; grandson, Travis Ford (Jessica) of Rogers, AR; four great-grandchildren, Tayvin Cushenbery, Kyleigh, Sean, and Lakyn Ford; and a sister, Mary Lou Coen of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Nellie; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Annette Bush; brother, Earl Bush; and sister, Corrine Harper.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Elliott Chapel, with Gary Getting officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
