According to research by Janet Spainhour Jinnette, Jacob Forney Jr.'s father was a French Huguenot. Jacob Sr. arrived in Philadelphia on 3 September, 1739. He moved from Lancaster PA to Lincoln (the Tryon) County, North Carolina. He married Maria Bergner, who had nursed him onboard ship after a trip to Germany in 1752.
Jacob Jr. and two of his brothers, Peter and Abram, all served in the American Revolution.
