James M Carnahan was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Smith) Carnahan born in Mercer Co. Penn., Oct 26, 1825 and died in his home three miles North of Oakwood, Ohio Nov. 7, 1921. He moved with his parents to Richland County Ohio when twelve years of age and there grew to manhood. March 22, 1849 he married to Lucinda Lighthill and to this union was born twelve children - six preceeded him indeath. In 1852 he moved to North of Oakwood Oh where he remained until his death. His wife departed this life March 28, 1900. The children living are Mrs. Polly Fuller, Jesse M., W.J. Carnahan, Martha Thrasher, Mrs Almed Cochran, Jemime Bidlack. 34 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. He was a member the Brethren Church for 50 years. He was a Civil War Vet. His burial was in the Prairie Chapel cemetery lot 100 east side.
