Nancy Turner Claiborn(e)
Matilda M. Brittain
Henry's father is Martin Mitchell, born around 1802 in Kentucky. Martin (and Henry) came to Pulaski County, Missouri from Jackson County, Alabama ca. 1837.
It is believed that Henry's mother Mary is the daughter of Anderson Lipscomb.
His (first) wife is Nancy Turner Claiborne, daughter of Ousley and Frances Hunter Robertson Claiborne from Camden County, MO. Henry and Nancy were married in Camden County on Sep. 11, 1853. They had 11 children, 2 of whom died in infancy/early childhood.
Henry and Nancy Mitchell are buried in Mitchell Chapel cemetery on land they donated for the church and cemetery, about 4 miles East of Crocker, MO near Bells Creek.
Unfortunately, the church (Methodist) was destroyed in a fire.
The above information was published by Mrs. Eulah Quiring, great-granddaughter of Henry Mitchell, in the book, "800 Missouri Families: Vol. 3" by Don Vincent.
