Jarrod was the son of James Riley Shivers and Judy Linnea Nelson.

Jarrod Brent Shivers, 34, died in the line of duty Jan. 17, 2008. He was a native of El Paso, Texas and had lived in Chesapeake for eight years and was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Nelson Shivers. He was a graduate of West Chester East High School and St. Leo's College and was a former volunteer fireman with the East Goshen, Pa., Fire Department. He was a devoted husband, son and father and was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and loved mountain biking.

Jarrod was a detective with the Chesapeake Police Department, having worked as a uniformed patrol and bicycle officer and most recently was a detective in the Special Investigations Section. He was a SWAT Team operator and breacher. He is survived by his wife, Nicole Bowers Shivers; two daughters, Brittnie J. Bowers and Ashleigh T. Shivers; his son, Landon C. Shivers, all of Chesapeake; his paternal grandparents, Lester and Evelyn Shivers; his parents, James R. Shivers and Sandra Shivers, all of Downingtown, Pa.; his sister, Jennifer L. Shivers of Oakland, Calif.; stepsister, Andrea Tancredi of Clayville, N.Y.; stepbrother, Mark Sarojak of Downingtown; and five nieces and nephews.

A funeral with full police honors will be held Tuesday in Great Bridge Baptist Church at 11 a.m. by Pastor Jim Wall. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends in the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., today from 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Jarrod B. Detective Jarrod Shivers was shot and killed while attempting to serve a narcotics search warrant at a home on Redstart Avenue at approximately 8:35 pm.

Detective Shivers was attempting to force entry into the home when the suspect inside fired one shot through the front door. The round struck Detective Shivers, fatally wounding him. The man then barricaded himself inside the home before being taken into custody and charged with murder.

Detective Shivers was a US Navy veteran. He had served with the Chesapeake Police Department for 8 years and was assigned to the Special Investigations Section. He is survived by his wife, son, two daughters, parents, siblings, and grandparents.
