Funeral services for Mrs Lena Heaton, age 91, of Gary, SD. will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Gary, SD. Rev. Don Davis will officiate. Mrs. Heaton passed away on August 27, 2002 at the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby, MN. She was the widow of Perry Heaton Sr.
Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Gary, SD. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Brett and Dean Heaton, and Chad and Brian Full. Music will be provided by Janelle Denekamp, organist and Bruce Melby, soloist.
Lena was born on June 9, 1911, on a farm near Lake Cochrane to William and Martha (Naegle) Cornell where she was raised and attended country school.
Lena was united in marriage to Perry Heaton, Sr. on February 26, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN. They lived ten years on a farm in Minnesota before moving to Gary where they owned and operated Heaton's Grocery Store. In January of 1981, Perry passed away. She continued living in her home until entering Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby, Mn in 2001.
Lena was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gary, SD. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was active in church offices. She enjoyed traveling, as she and Perry went south to Texas for the winter months. Lena was active in Senior Citizens and loved her cat. For over 50 years, Lena was a member of the Arbor Rebekah Lodge of Gary.
Lena Heaton is survived by one son, Perry Heaton Jr. and his wife, Joan of Gary, SD; one daughter, Linda Full and her husband, Don of Minneota, Mn., five grandchildren: Brett, Wendy and Dean Heaton and Chad and Brian Full; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Cornell and his wife, Doris of Gary, SD and Arthur Cornell and his wife, Ann of Albert Lea, MN; and four sisters, Mary Nygaard of Rapid City, SD, Ruth Savage of Co, Edna Carson of Willernie, MN. and Esther West of Canby, MN.
Lena is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Perry, Sr.; two brothers, Leonard Cornell and Carl Cornell, and two sisters, Rosa Claeys and Ella Cornell.
