Perry W. Heaton, Sr.
Perry Heaton, Sr., age 73, a resident of Gary, S. Dak., passed away January 29, 1981 at a Houston, Texas hospital.
Mr. Heaton was born October 27, 1907 at Sterling, N. Dak., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward P. Heaton. He graduated from Gary High School. He married Lena Cornell on February 26, 1938 at Minneapolis. The couple farmed in Manfred Township for ten years, when they moved to Gary. He carried the Star Route from 1942 until 1970. He also owned and operated Heaton's Store until retirement in 1970.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Gary, was active in the Masonic Lodge, the I.O.O.F. Lodge, Arbor Rebekah Lodge and the Farmers Union.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Blanch Heaton, Louise Bresson and Margaret Heaton, and six brothers, Guy, Lee, Irving, Ivan, Harold and Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Lena; a son, Perry Jr. of Gary; one daughter, Mrs. Don (Linda) full of Minneota, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Cole of Gary, Mrs Pearl Peden of Rapid City and Mrs Clarice Schutjer of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, February 3, 1981 at 11:00 a.m. from the United Methodist Church in Gary with Rev. Bruce Gray officiating. Bruce Melby sang "How Great Thou Art: and "In the Garden", accompanied by Pansy Gage at the organ. A hymn was sung by the congregation. Casket bearers were Larry West, Delynn Bresson, Jim Cleveland, Donald Schutjer, Wendell Peden and Allen L. Heaton. Members of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. Lodges were Honorary Casket bearers. Burial was in the Grand View Cemetery at Gary.
