Harry "Henner" Ray Goodling, age 88, of Bainbridge, PA, received his call to Heaven on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at approximately 10:00 pm, with his daughters by his side. He passed away peacefully in his home. His death was the result of multiple myeloma, diagnosed in October 2021, and esophageal cancer, diagnosed in May 2022.

Born on May 12, 1934 in Elizabethtown, PA, Henner was the 11th of fourteen children born to the late Charles E. and Mary A. (Krissinger) Goodling. He grew up on East High Street in Elizabethtown and attended Elizabethtown High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Henner started doing plaster work with his father and brothers when he was a teen, and he continued in the plaster business for many years, adding concrete and drywall. He worked at the Armstrong Carpet Plant in Marietta and the Armstrong Floor Plant in Lancaster for a combined time of 25 years.

After dating through high school, Harry and Ginny were married on May 27, 1956 at the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren. The couple spent the next six years in California, during Henner's service at Travis Air Force Base as a mechanic. While stationed there, Henner took on various jobs including lawn care, vineyard and orchard picking in Napa Valley and work in a tannery. Their first two daughters were born during their time in CA. After returning to PA, Harry and the family lived on the property of Donegal Presbyterian Church where they were custodians of the church and grounds. Their third daughter was born in 1973, and in 1974, they moved to Bainbridge, PA. Harry and his family attended Word of Life Chapel in Bainbridge, where Harry remained a member.

Harry was a husband and father who always worked hard at his jobs and home to provide for his wife and children. He also spent many hours working to help other family members and friends complete home projects, never hesitating to offer his skills. He knew how to relax and enjoy life as well. He did this through family hikes, Sunday afternoon drives and ice cream, watching football and golf, swimming in the family pool, hunting trips and family vacations in Potter County, golfing, bowling, riding motorcycle and scuba-diving. He was a faithful church attender and spent much personal time in the study of the Word and Christian living. Henner was quite the talker, and he brought humor and laughter to conversation and everyday tasks.

Henner will be lovingly missed by his daughters Tina Laurene Jacoby (Steve) of Bainbridge, PA, Judith Lynn Goodling of Bainbridge, PA, and Beth Louise Emberger (John) of Bear, DE, grandchildren Christopher L. Erickson (33), Ashley F. Jacoby (26), Breanna M. Jacoby (24), Angelina G. Jacoby (14), Xander C. Emberger (21), Andrew C. Emberger (19), and Aaron C. Emberger (13), and four great-grandchildren. The life and times of Henner will be affectionately remembered by his sisters, Isla "Fawn" Long of Ogden, Utah and Lois Conley of Mt. Joy, PA , and by his brothers, Charles "Junie", Albert "Bert" and James "Jim" Goodling, all of Elizabethtwon, PA. On May 24, 2014, his wife and the enduring love of his life, Virginia "Ginny" Fay (Brooks) Goodling went home to be with the Lord while Henner was by her side, three days prior to their 58th wedding anniversary. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Rheba Leonard, Arline "Ginger" Kuhn, Velva "Sally" Boylan and Helen Goodling, and his brothers Alton "Red", Paul, Ken and Dave Goodling.

The family warmly thanks: the people of Word of Life Chapel; the nurses, aides, and care team of Hospice and Community Care; and all those who have loved the family through prayer, visits, phone calls, cards, meals, and other acts of support in this difficult time.

A service of remembrance will be held at Word of Life Chapel, 139 Wickersham Road, Bainbridge, PA, 17502, on Sunday, July 24th at 4:00 in the afternoon. Family and friends are welcome to visit from 3:00 to 4:00.
