Son of James Madison Jacobs and Permelia Harris-Jacobs, both buried in Harris Cemetery in Hardeman county TN. Husband of Mary Ann Burnett-Jacobs and Banena F. Ferguson-Jacobs.

Owned 1900+ acres of land at his death. He was a farmer. He also owned a general store and grist mill. Both of these were located at the intersection of what are now Van Buren and Lake Hardeman Roads.

After the death of his first wife, Mary Ann, he moved to Jackson, Madison county TN and bought land. This land is said to have been on or very close to what is now McKellar-Sipes Airport. He lived also in Carrollton, Carroll county MS briefly with his second wife Banena Ferguson but moved back to Hardeman county due to boll weevil infestations in cotton crop.

According to his WWI draft card his middle name was actually Leondas which is an alternate spelling of Leonidas, the Greek king of Thermopylae fame.
