Howard Mixon, 70, Idabel, died suddenly at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday of a heart ailment in his home at 805 K Drive.
A son of Fred and Mable Mixon, he was born Oct. 10, 1914 in Idabel and had resided here all of his life. He was married to Lela Flowers on Feb. 18, 1942 in Perry.
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Idabel and Idabel Post 4777, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Shortly after World War II, he and his brother, Fred Mixon, founded Mixon Brothers Post Yard, treating and transporting posts and poles.
Later the plant became Mixon Brothers Wood Treatment Plant, and Mixon remained active in the operation of the facility from 1947 until his retirement a few years ago.
In addition to his wife, Lela, he is survived by one son, Bobby Mixon of Idabel; one daughter, Judy Davis of Grand Prairie, Texas; one brother, Fred Mixon, Jr. of Idabel; two sisters, Nita DeWitt of Port Arthur, Texas and Mrs. O.F. Ogle of Norman; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Mixon, both of Idabel.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in the Idabel Norwood Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Pate, assisted by the Rev. Dale Hill, officiating.
Arrangements and burial in Denison Cemetery are under the direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Idabel.
