RITES MONDAY for MRS. EVA BEEMS.
Mrs. Eva BEEMS, widow of Joseph BEEMS and resident of this locality for over 50 years, died late Saturday afternoon in a Norfolk hospital, where she had been taken the preceding day.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the Steckelberg mortuary, with Rev. H. J. Timmer officiating. Interment was in the family plot in the Randolph cemetery. On the same day and almost the same hour funeral services were conducted at Rock Springs, Wyo. for Mrs. BEEMS' sister, Mrs. Amanda HITTLE, 88.
Mrs. BEEMS death came as a shock to her family and many in the community, After receiving word of the death of her sister Thursday afternoon, she was ready to leave Randolph for Rock Springs, and had her wraps on when the attack occurred which was to prove fatal. Her condition grew rapidly worse and was critical from Friday noon on. Members of her family were at her bedside.
Mrs., Beems and her late husband first came to Nebraska in a covered wagon 56 years ago, settling in the community near Coleridge. Later they returned to Iowa to live and then lived one year in South Dakota, but this community had since been their home. Mr. BEEMS died 11 years ago.
Eva MITCHELL was born March 22, 1877 at Galesburg, ILL. She came with her parents, as a small child to Defiance, IA. and later they moved to Harlan, IA. Here she was married in April of 1896 to Joseph BEEMS. A year and a half later they came to Nebraska to reside.
Mrs. BEEMS is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Delphia LANPHEAR of Randolph, Mrs. Beverly ZART of Crofton; two sons, John of Crofton and Elmer of Cedar Rapids, IA; one sister, Mrs. Lorena PORTER 91, of Hartington; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Maree STOBER, and five sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were Vurney Copple, W. J. Cunningham, O. H. Scott, Roy Gibson, Joe Sellon, Howard Weber.
