Sarah Oliver Akins was the daughter of Benjamin Oliver. Her father served under Captain Valentine Sevier and Colonel Charles Robinson in the American Revolution.

In April 1840, Benjamin Oliver applied for Revolutionary War Pension in Jackson County, Alabama. (Reference Benjamin Oliver S11156 at revwarapps.org.) He was awarded pension, but died before he collected, so the Treasury Department authorized that payment be made to his children identified as:

Joseph Oliver
Elizabeth Oliver Pendergrass
William Oliver
Sarah Oliver Akin
Rachel Oliver Morton
Nancy Oliver Lewis

Circa 1809, Ms Oliver married John Akins, son of Ezekiel and Sarah McCravey Akins. Ezekiel Akins was a soldier in the American Revolution: the Daughters of the American Revolution designated Ezekiel Akins, DAR Ancestor Number A000862, and Benjamin Oliver, Ancestor A135133. (Reference DAR Genealogical Research System at dar.org. Membership is not required to access the GRS.)

John Akins fought in the War of 1812. In 1827, he won in the Georgia Land Lottery and he and Sarah and several of their children moved to Georgia. In his Will, dated September 16, 1856, John named his "beloved wife, Sarah," and children:

Ezekiel Akins
John Akins
Benjamin Akins
Joseph Akins
James Akins
Elizabeth Akins
Katherine Akins
Easter Akins

Ezekiel Akins married Melinda Jane Cantrell, a descendant of John Jacob Pirkle. (Melinda Cantrell Akins / Elizabeth Pirkle Cantrell / William Pirkle / John Jacob Pirkle, A089307.)

Benjamin Akins married Rachel Henry. The DAR designated her father, Joseph Henry, Ancestor A201833, and her grandfather, Thomas Henry, Ancestor A132757. The organization designated her maternal grandfather, Alexander Porter, Ancestor A090927.

John Akins married Lydia Reese.
Joseph George Akins married Mirah Flowers.
James Akins married Martha Anderson.
Elizabeth Akins married Phil Wallis.
Katherine Akins married Jessie Fields.
Easter Akins married Francis Self.

Sons John, James, and Joseph Akins were casualties of the Civil War.

Note: the vital statistics are approximations. Sarah outlived her husband: the date and location of her death remain unknown. The name Akins appears variously as Akin, Aikins, and other spellings.
