Ezekiel was born 1810 in Macon Co., NC to John AKINS, Sr. who died 1863 in Union Co., GA. This is proven by Wills and census records and other evidence. They both migrated into Union Co., GA by 1840 census and John died in 1863. Ezekiel moved to this part of now Pickens Co., GA by 1850 which was then Gilmer Co., GA. He had married Melinda Jane CANTRELL in 1829 Macon Co., NC and she was dtr of Rev. Jacob CANTRELL R.S. and Elizabeth GILES from SC who came to North Georgia to start the Goshen Bapt Church which is now in neighboring Dawson Co., GA. Fortunately, Elizabeth filed for land grant and gave up a lot of family information in her application to help us genealogists today. Ezekiel owned 260 acres in Pickens Co., GA per county tax lists. I visited this cemetery, or what's left of it, about 2004 and found several stones overturned and partially buried. I suspect that there may be more flat markers which have been buried altogether. This cemetery is still on private land.
