Father of: Timothy Arnett; John Riley; Peter; Winnie Westberry Oxner Massey; Rachel Westberry Fulch; Margaret Westberry Sallens Middleton; William R.; Mary Arthur Westberry Thornton; Dicy Westberry Thornton; Vashti Amanda Westberry Armstrong; Oliver Massey; Esra Alden; Washington K. John Westberry enlisted in the Confederate Army in Company A 1st Regiment, 1st Brigade, georgia State troops on October 3, 1861 and was mustered out in 1862. He then enlisted in Company K 54thGeorgia Infantry on April 18, 1862. He was wounded in the left thigh in the Battle of Peachtree Creek near Atlanta on July 20, 1864.He was at home and disabled at the close of the war.His Company surrendered in Greensboro North Carolina in April of 1865. He was furloughed June 16, 1864 because of his wound.During the years 1901-1905 he claimed that he supported himself with "what labor he could do and support of relatives" when applying for a Confederate Pension. He listed his property as being worth $450.00. He stated that his occupation had been that of a farmer. John Westberry died at his home on Novemeber 20, 1909 and is buried in the Flint Branch Church in Jesup, Georgia beside his wife, Matilda.
