William R. Axemaker, 83, 2403 Geneva St., died Monday afternoon in Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Mr. Axemaker was born June 3, 1893, in David City, Neb. He moved to White Lake, S. D. in 1909. He married Susan Hettinger on April 16, 1912. The couple farmed near White Lake until 1920 when they moved to Mitchell, S. D. They moved to Sioux City in 1929. He was foreman at Kari-Keen Manufacturing Co. before retiring 25 years ago. He was a charter member of Local 57 of the asbestos workers union. Survivors include the widow; five daughters, Mrs. Leonard C. (Alvina) Langley, Mrs. Don (Margaret) Mertz, Mrs. Lawrence (Dorothy) Boyle, Mrs. Clayton (Marcella) Mustapha, and Mrs. Paul (Arlene) White, all of Sioux City; 21 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles of Mitchell, Francis of Belle Fourche, S. D., and John of Colton, Ore. Meyer Bros. Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Services for William R. Axemaker, 83, 2403 Geneva St., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Richard V. Sweeney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dennis E. Langley, Ralph A. Mertz, Joseph Boyle and Ronald, Robert and James White. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of America and at 7:30 p.m. by the parish, both today at Meyer Bros. Colonial Chapel. Mr. Axemeyer died Monday afternoon at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
