Emma Emelia Cooney was born August 9, 1855, near Hillsboro, Ohio, and died at the home of her daughter Maud Riherd in Red Rock on Wednesday, February 26, 1941, at 11:00 a.m., aged 85 years, 6 months and 17 days. On February 5, 1878, she was married to Jacob Shilling. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1916. To this union six children were born, Maye De Bok, Gerty Karr, Grace Ballard, Maud Riherd, Roy and Lloyd. She also leaves to mourn her death two brothers and one sister near Council Bluffs.
Twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends and neighbors. She was a charter member of the Red Rock church.
Rev. Pigg of the Christian Church in Knoxville preached the funeral, reading of the Psalm "The Lord is My Shepherd" and taking also for his text the 32nd verse of John 16.
Mrs. Willis King and daughter sang "We Are Going Down the Valley," "In the Garden" and "Eastern Gate." Nettie LeGrand was at the piano. The funeral was held at Red Rock church Friday afternoon at 1:30 with burial in the North cemetery near Knoxville. Raymond and Ellsworth Shilling, Arthur Riherd and Bulas Karr were four of the pall bearers. We are unable to obtain the names of the other tow. The flower girls were six granddaughters whose maiden names were Beulah and Thelma DeBok, Winnie and Leo Karr, Ruby and Grace Riherd.
