August 07, 1930 - October 08, 2021

Anna L. (Olson) Steinmeyer, 91 of Spearfish, SD passed peacefully into eternal life on October 8, 2021. after a fall at home and a short stay in Pathways Hospice in Loveland, Colorado.

Ann was born on August 7, 1930, to Henry E. and Anna C. Olson at home in Chase County, Nebraska. She was raised on a Nebraska farm with four brothers and three sisters. She and her siblings grew up in a Christian home where she grew to love God and the land. From an early age she was involved in the Brethren Church and spent many summers teaching children the joys of Jesus as she worked and taught with the American Sunday School Association under Reverend CP Turner. After graduating from Imperial High School in 1948, she worked at Enders Dam before moving to Denver, Colorado to work at Montgomery Ward and Sears Roebuck. Ann then attended Rockmount College to earn her teaching certificate. She taught school in Glendo, Torrington, and Casper, Wyoming in the 1950s. During her time in Glendo, Ann helped to establish the Glendo Community Church.

In 1960, Ann was united in marriage to Richard E. Steinmeyer, and they began their life together on a farm in Long Valley, South Dakota. They were married 51 years until his death in 2012. Ann and Richard started their family in September 1961 with their 1st son. Their 2nd son was born in 1962, their 3rd son in 1963, and their daughter in 1965. In January 1970, the family moved to Saint Onge, South Dakota where they built a dairy.

Ann was a doer and get-things-done kind of woman. Along with raising four young children, Ann was very active in the UCC Church of Spearfish, the Christian Women's Club, and other organizations. Living at their ranch near Long Valley, Ann was active in the Presbyterian Church of Kadoka, South Dakota and taught children piano and knitting as well as substitute teaching in the local schools. She also designed and, with family members and friends, built the house of her dreams. Ann and Richard transferred their membership to the Whitewood Presbyterian Church, a community that Ann would hold very dear to her heart all the way until her death.

Upon retiring from active farming, Ann and Richard spent much time traveling and exploring the world with her sister and brother-in-law. They opened their home to many people through the Evergreen organization and enjoyed meeting interesting people from all around the world.

After Richard's passing in 2012, Ann remained on the family farm until 2015. She moved to Dodge City, Kansas and stayed with her son and his family for one year. Afterwards, she moved to Loveland, Colorado where she resided with her sister and daughter. There she attended Faith Church of Loveland.

Ann had a life-long love of exploring new things, learning, and teaching as well as a life-long dedication to serving others. She was a homemaker, gardener, seamstress (sewing several wedding dresses including her own), bookkeeper, and Bible school leader. Ann's service continued into 2021 through her knitting. Over the years, Ann donated hundreds of sweaters to those in need through World Vision. Her service flowed out of her deep and enduring love for and faith in Christ Jesus.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband Richard, son Douglas, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her sister; her children and their spouses; eight grandchildren, three step-grandsons, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom meant the world to her!

Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Spearfish. A memorial service at 3 PM on October 23 at Faith EPC Church in Loveland, CO.
