Merle E. Coffey, 92, of Mascoutah, Ill, born Sept. 9, 1928 in May Township, Ill. died Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Brightly Senior Living, Mascoutah, Ill.
Merle was a retired parts manager at Bob Ridings Ford in Taylorville, Ill. He also worked as a coal miner and was the Sunday school superintendent for the Taylorville First Church of Nazarene for many years. Merle was a member of the Parkview Church of the Nazarene in Fairview Heights, Ill, Taylorville First Church of Nazarene in Taylorville, Ill, and American Legion Post 257, Stonington, Ill. Merle was a United States Army Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ruth, nee Miller, Coffey, his first wife, Velma, nee Quick, Coffey who died July 7, 1987, his second wife, Rita L., nee Tippitt, Coffey, who died on Dec. 23, 2019, five brothers, Roy, Early, Harold, Charles, and Thomas Coffey, and a sister, Mary.

Merle is survived by three children, James (Jill) McGehee of Bolingbrook, Ill., Carl (Maggie) McGehee of Macon, Ill, Kelly (Emmett) Calloway of Mascoutah, Ill.; eight grandchil- dren; eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Leah Bailey, Elsie Creason; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
