Harrington, aka "Red", was the tenth child of Omer and Amelia (Schmanski) Curd. His childhood was spent in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. About 1926 the family moved from Oshkosh to Los Angeles County, California.

Red found employment at the Gas Company, where he met fellow employee Kathryn, aka "Kay", Cole. Red married Kathryn Lea Cole October 31, 1931 in Santa Ana, California. They had three children: Ronald Arthur; Vena Diane; Michael Dennis.

The family lived in San Pedro, California. Red worked as a drill press operator for steel derrick manufacturing. He loved to hunt and fish. Red also enjoyed drinking, cussing good-naturedly, and playing Canasta with his wife's family. He worked very hard to support his family and everyone who knew him loved him. His grandchildren called him "Boppa." He is greatly missed by his family.
