About 1936 Howard married Charlotte Truman in Los Angeles County, California. They had two daughters, Judy and Pat. The family lived in Los Angeles.
Howard worked laying carpet for the W & J Sloane Co. for several years. Afterwards, he was employed as a fireman for the city of Los Angeles for 24 years.He enjoyed raising rabbits as a hobby.
Howard died of congestive heart failure.
