Barbara Ann Meiners Dickson Nelson was born February 17, 1945 in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida to Paul John Meiners and Margaret Mary Schaible Meiners. She had five siblings. On December 27, 1969 Barbara married Robert Paul Dickson in Richardson, Dallas County, Texas, and they became the parents of Mary Katherine Dickson Smith, Martha Dickson, Joan Dickson, Janet Dickson, Ross Dale Dickson, and Ellen Dickson and grandparents of many grandchildren. The couple divorced in 1996. On April 25, 1997 she married divorcé Claudie Ray Nelson in Rockwall County, Texas. (Robert remarried, in 1998, to Nancy F. Talkington Dickson.)

Barbara passed away at age 75 from COVID 19 and other health problems on April 24, 2020 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio and was buried next to her army veteran husband Claudie at Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.
