THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, Dec. 22, 1969: "J. H. 'Hub' Helms, died Monday at 1:50 a.m., St. Joseph's Hospital, Paris, Texas after a 2 month illness. He retired as carpenter 10 years ago, and had since made and sold ceramic ware. Funeral will be Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Roxton, where he was a member. Body to lie from 1-2 p.m., the service hour. Pastor George Steel officiating. Burial at Restland Cemetery, Roxton. Arrangements by Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris. Son of J.H. and Mattie Green Helms, "Hub" was born Feb. 8, 1894 in Atlanta, Georgia, but had lived since childhood near Roxton. He married the former Ada Maynard on Oct. 17, 1917. Her death occurred June 15, 1957. Mr. Helms is survived by ten children, Lloyd Helms, his home in Roxton, Calvin Helms, Mrs. Margaret Self, Mrs. Jane Staley and Mrs. Mildred Ingle, all of Dallas; Johnny Helms of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Madeline Bonham of Albuquerque, N.M.; Christine Connelly of Hot Spring, Ark.; Mrs. Alma Hughes and Mrs. Jo Brawner of Fort Worth.
