LAMAR COUNTY ECHO Thu., Mar. 1980. ‘James L. Helms of Roxton died at 4:50 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Roxton with the Rev. David Spangler officiating. Steele-Thomas Funeral Home had charge of burial in Restland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Helms, 58, was born Sep.11, 1921, in Roxton, a son of Joe H. and Ada Maynard Helms. He married Dorothy McDowell on Feb. 22, 1948, in Paris. He was a member of the Roxton Baptist Church and of the Roxton Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert L. Helms of Paris and Paul Lee Helms of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Bramlett of Roxton and Mrs. Elaine Niblett of Roxton; two brothers, Calvin Helms of Dallas and Johnny Helms of Corpus Christi; six sisters, Mrs. Madeline Bonham of Roxton, Mrs. Christine Conley of Hot Springs, AR, Mrs. Jane Staley and Mrs. Margaret Self, both of Dallas, Mrs. Joe Brauner of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Mildred Capps of Houston; and one granddaughter, Angie Bramlett.’ Cpl. US Army WW II.
