John was born on April 3rd, 1932 in Monmouth, IL to Warren and Rhoda McCoy Allsup. He grew up in Aledo, IL and was a musician in his teens with Hank Thompson. John met his wife Vivian in Douds and they were married on January 1, 1954. He was a construction worker for a short time and was part of the build of interstate 80 in the Colfax Iowa area. John was a logger for many years in multiple states and tore down old barns as well. He enjoyed buying and selling at auctions and flea markets and playing the guitar and banjo.
John is survived by his wife, Vivian, his children, Michael Allsup, Della Shaffer, Robert Allsup (Barb), Cindy Allsup, Steve Allsup, Matt Allsup, Mitzi Maggio (Antonio), Peggy Clark, Chester Allsup (Patricia) and Douglas Allsup, numerous grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucille Steele and his squirrel monkey (son), Hank Allsup.
In accordance with his wishes his body has been cremated and a graveside memorial service and interment of cremains will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday April 3, 2021 at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Douds, IA.
