Etheridge “Noot” Alford, 85, the beloved husband of Dora A. Marshall Alford, finished his earthly labors and entered his Eternal Home to hear the words, “Welcome home thy good and faithful servant” on Wednesday morning, March 17, 2021.

Mr. Alford was born a son of Ellie Parker Alford and Alice Hyman Alford on May 11, 1935 in Florence County.

He was the last born of nine siblings: Aline (Jasper) Parrott, Rutledge “Bubba” (Kizzie) Alford, Louise (Ed) Evans, Lizzie Mae (Willie) Cox, Willie Alford, Rev. John Henry (Mary) Alford, Evelyn (Henry Lee) Swails, and Nathan (Pat) Alford.

He was a 1952 graduate of Andrews High School. He was the owner and operator of Alford’s Feed & Seed and Alford’s/D.K.’s BoKay Florist, Inc. One of his greatest accomplishments was his distinguished Christian Service as a Music and Worship Leader. For over 55 years, Mr. Noot has sacrificially given his musical gifts and talents to the Christian community. He directed music and worship at the Williamsburg Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years and was currently serving at the Piney Forest Baptist Church. He organized and managed two musical groups – The Williamsburg Trio and the Alford Family – which ministered in many churches for revivals, Homecomings, and numerous events.

His passionate love for farming, nature and music was constantly revealed as with his own hands he help others toil the land, made each unique floral arrangement, and led people into worship. There was no service acceptable except service of excellent quality doing all as unto the Lord. Using the words of the Old Testament, Noot Alford was a man seeking after God’s own heart and that character made him a pillar of our community, a successful businessman, and a Christian leader for the people faith. His greatest accomplishment was without a doubt his fulfillment of a “Honorable Man” as he lived his life as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, cherished brother, and faithful friend.

Mr. Noot’s legacy of Christian faith and truth has now become the heritage of: two daughters, Karen Michelle Alford and Katherine Denise “Kathy” A. Miller (Fernie Walter “Wally”); three grandchildren, Katelyn Denise M. Cumbie (Nicholas), Kerri Brooke Miller, and Noah Alford Miller; two God-children, Martha Lynn Bauer Cumbie and John Parker Bauer; and loved as his own son, Ralph Bauer.

He also leaves behind a large extended family including, his-in-law, Mary H. Alford, Billie M. Wrenn, Charles Marshall, and Jewell M. Murray and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by: his parents and all his siblings.

A Home Going Celebration will be 4PM, Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Piney Forest Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Ivey Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

The Alford family will receive family and friends prior to the service from 2-4PM in the church sanctuary.
