Helen Belle Stiles Rogers, 86, of Brevard, NC, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997.She was a native of Macon County, NC and had lived in Transylvania County, NC since 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edison Rogers, after 52 years of marriage. She was the youngest of twelve children of the late Judson Jefferson Davis Stiles and Ella Ann Bates Stiles, and the great, great, great, granddaughter of John Stiles and Andrew Strain Revolutionary War Patriots. Also preceding her were seven brothers and their spouses: John Brackenridge Stiles, Henry Harrington Stiles (Ada and Myrtice), Thomas Watson Stiles (Dell), Claude Daniel Stiles (Rhoda), Orville Judson Stiles (Marie and Mildred), George Thedore Stiles (Agnes), Fred Verrell Stiles (Hallie) and four sisters and their spouses: Mary Mae Gray (Javan), Hermie Thedocia Lawson (Elmer), Lela Ethel Cunningham (Wade), Sadie Emogene Penland (Witham) and two great-grandchildren; Callie Marie Owen and Benton John Brightwell.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law; Ann Owen (Furman), Frances Jones (Carroll), Ruby Sprouse (Donald), Pat Hooper (Grady); one son and daughter-in-law; Bill Rogers (Velma); ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was a homemaker and devoted to and will be greatly missed by her family, church and many friends. She enjoyed growing flowers and having a vegetable garden. She loved quilting, needle work, canning and making jelly and jam.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 1997 in New Hope Baptist Church of which she was a charter member. The Rev. Douglas (Pete) Lee and Rev. Tommy Owen will officiate. Her grand-sons will be pallbearers. Burial will follow in Pisgah Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M., Friday, November 21, 1997 at Moore Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.
