Allen Elmer Fisher, 77, of Menomonie, Wis., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at home with his family, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer.

He was born July 5, 1930, in Menomonie to Louis and Olga (Moe) Fisher. He grew up, worked, and lived in Menomonie for the better part of his life. Allen married Delores L. Brune on April 4, 1951. The two of them built a life together on a solid foundation of love. They have five children together, four boys and one girl, all of whom are grown and have families of their own.

After the unfortunate passing of his wife of 25 years, Allen grew to love Faye Leiter; and they had been together for the past 27 years. The two of them, building strong families and friends, enjoyed every minute together.

Allen was in the U.S. Navy for four years, and was a local union bricklayer until he retired in 1992. Allen was an avid Packers fan, and a Menomonie Packer Backer, enjoying the games and parties at the local pubs, or just hanging out with his brother, Hub Fisher. Weekends were spent with his partner of 27 years (Faye Leiter) and best friends, Tom Lemke and Lori Sabby.

Allen loved to go hunting with his son Joe, friend Roger, daughter-in-law, Kiley and grandchildren, Dustin and Shelby. He was a member of the old-timers pool league, where he shot pool with his son Mike, best friend, Tom Lemke, and countless other close friends. He was the biggest fan of the Menomonie Indians football team, with season passes in the 'blue seats.' Allen enjoyed his life, and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. If you showed up at grandpa's house, there was no doubt you would be offered an ice-cream cone and more than likely he would have one with you. It was a good excuse for him to have a cone. He was a strong democrat, so you had to be ready to validate your reasons why you were anything other than a democrat.

Allen spent a lot of time living, laughing and loving. His motto in life was to go by what people do, and not by what they say. He lived a full life with family and close friends. A smile, a good steak and a good laugh was all he could ask for.

He will be missed by many people. It was a privilege and honor to know this man of integrity, strength, honesty and love.

Allen is survived by four sons and one daughter, Michael (Kathy) Fisher of Menomonie, Cynthia (Cary) Redmond of Beaverton, Ore., William (Julianne) Fisher of Boyceville, Daniel (Nita) Fisher of Vancouver, Wash., and Joseph (Kiley) Fisher of Menomonie; his grandchildren, Christy, Matt, Wyatt and Adam Fisher, Samantha and Devin Redmond, Shelby, Cheyenne, Kaylee and Sarah Fisher, Chelsae, Haley and Jud Fisher, Dustin, Danny and Ryan Fisher; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Allison Fisher; his partner of 27 years, Faye Leiter; Faye's children, Lynette Lunde of North Dakota, Leisha (David) Peloquin of Coon Rapids, Minn., Patti (Barry) Leiter of Menomonie, Mardy Leiter of Menomonie; Faye's grandchildren, Dustin Klaphake, Lia Leiter, Evan, Audra, Garrett and Spencer Peloquin; Allen's goddaughter and niece, Linda (Doug) Dyle; also survived by nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; brother, Hub Fisher; sisters, Delores White, Alice Myers and Connie Fox; and a grandson, Joseph Fisher Jr.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with the Rev. Rosalind Dryver-Scott officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran/Halvorson Cemetery, Menomonie with military honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.

Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, and at the church one hour before the service on Monday.

The family suggests memorials to the Menomonie Booster Club or the charity of the donor's choice.
