Franklinton, La. Dec. 29---Jacob Magee Sr. aged 91 years, died yesterday afternoon at his homestead four miles north, surrounded by the members of the family of his youngest son Albert, with whom he had resided for many years. Mr. Magee was the eldest son of John Magee, deceased, and became a man of wealth in Washington Parish. Public spirited and enterprising, his benefactions were many and varied. He was a liberal contributor to the causes of education and the church, aided financially many younger persons in their industrial pursuits, and was the practical banker in the parish long before a regular bank was domiciled here. His business career extended for about sixty years. Contented with mercantile, agricultural and other industrial industries, he neither sought nor accepted political office, save once, during the period of reconstruction, when he served as representative of the State Legislature contemporaneously with Amos Kent, both of whom sustained the reputation of being above reproach. Jacob Magee Sr. leaves no daughters, his five living sons, men also of wealth, are Willis D., Robert D. Hampton B., Marcus F. and Albert G. His first wife was Miss Lenora Cunningham [sic, Morgan], who with her children, are dead. His second wife, likewise deceased, was Miss Mary Ann Daniels, whose wealth materially supplemented [that of her husband].
