Richard's Obituary

Richard N. Carr, 92, of Anderson went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2021.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1928, in Lydick, IN to George and Mary (Norris) Carr.

He attended Owosso Bible College for his Bachelor of Arts degree and Indiana University for his Master's Degree in Education.

He was a minister and pastored churches in Florida, Michigan, and Indiana. He was a teacher in the Indiana public schools for 44 years with most of those years teaching 5th and 6th grades at Edgewood Elementary School. Along with teaching, he coached basketball, track, and football. He had a very competitive nature and enjoyed winning 7 city championships between his boys’ and girls’ teams. While he officially retired from teaching in 2000, he continued as a substitute teacher through the age of 90. He had a very unique ability to connect with students and a passion to encourage and support them to be the best they could be. Similarly, he was always serving through ministry, finding various ways to meet the needs of others. He was also an avid sports enthusiast whether participating directly or watching his favorite teams. He was very hard-working, kind and compassionate, and never knew a stranger. Everyone knew “Mr. Carr”.

He was a member of Central Wesleyan Church and served in many different capacities.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eula May (Metz) Carr; four children, Joyce (Dan) Burnett of Mississippi, Doug Carr of South Carolina, Judy Gaines of Anderson, and Dwight (Jennifer) Carr of Anderson; grandchildren, Julianne (Juan) Burnett, Jennifer (Christian) Hartman, Daniel Gaines (fiancé Abigail Ploetz), Leah (George) Tranbarger, and Rachael (Jamie) Martin; great grandchildren, Sebastian Hartman, Piper Tranbarger, Morgan & Wiley Martin; one brother, George (Marjorie) Carr; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary (Norris) Carr; three sisters, Betty Spriggs, Rachel Blackmon, and Arlene Segars, one brother, Paul Carr, and son-in-law, Lanny Gaines.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 23, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Wesleyan Church, 2406 Delaware Street, Anderson, Indiana 46016.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jerry Alexander officiating.

Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
