knew Richard when he was stationed at Quantico Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia. I was a young teenager, 16 years old at the time and would see him at the Staff Pool in Quantico where he was a life guard. One night in 1965, he and some friends had been partying and driving around in the Widewater area of Stafford County, Virginia, when the car went out of control, left the road, and hit a tree; Richard succumbed to his injuries.
That was a sad day when I heard the news. He was a really nice guy.
